Tungsten light, daylight, interior, exterior, orange cast, blue cast, warm, cool – colour films select and polarize. colour ‘balance’ is colour ‘bias’, there is no simple ‘recording’. Shots of a house – interiors (rooms), glimpses of exteriors (through windows), juxtaposition of colour, exploitation of separations. Process, viewing, (which cast is the more ‘real’) and the ‘content’ of the image (blue room, orange room) cannot be divorced from its physical and material qualities (colour film ‘colours’).
