Sea c.1897-2011

single screen video, 33 minutes sound, 2011

Sea c.1897-2011 is a work of appropriated archival film and sound, made to be seen in a cinematic space.  There are five sections with intertitles: coasts, seas, waves, skies and horizons.   The dislocatedness of the seascapes facilitates the question of how they could be seen and heard in time, how they could be experienced as past, and of a time past, particularly as the sea does not announce ‘when’ it is.
